I haven't written a blog in a while, I must say it's refreshing. anywhoooos..
We finally got a decent litter of RED juniors, at first, I was not liking the Belle X Topaz litter at all. I only liked Sapphire from the get-go and that was about it. They are now almost 4 months old and they are growing into themselves. They look absolutely fabulous. The color is so clean, it's not as intense as I like it but it's still a lovely color that makes you go WOW!!!.
Money, Money, & more Money. I've decided that we are going to build our own flush-keen system. I'm so sick of pans at this point, especially since we have so many rabbits coming( the most we've had since we started this hobby). I've added 6 new reds to our programs. We're getting a REW doe that is genetically RED(or Agouti) from Convention from Twin Barns Rabbitry. We're getting a Broken Red Doe from Two River's Rabbitry, I thank goodness for Rich Caves, becuase I wouldn't have looked at her site again. This saves us a whole lot of trouble and a good number of years trying to create our own Broken Red lines. Then I got a trio of Reds a couple days ago. DagRabbit's Sage, she's about 4 years old, but apparently she had a litter a couple months ago. As long as I get one decent litter out of her I will be happy. She's a big, healthy doe for her age. I got Queen's Hottie & Hotter as well, they are full siblings, so I will have to wait until Red Jasper gets old enough so I can breed her to him. Right now, HOTTIE is bred to JUAN(Broken Tort). It's a trial and error breeding.
Speaking of trial and error, I bred LUCY to JUAN and got 2 Torted Otters, 1 Red, 1 Broken Red, and 2 Booted Reds. I guess I won't be trying that breeding again. I decided to go on ahead and sell JUAN and PUMPKIN. They are both really good rabbits, but we want to focus more on our reds, as you can tell by all our new additions. Plus, we got a another nice pair of torts a couple weeks ago. We got Infamous and Rusty from Misty Weathers, talk about some gorgeous animals. I can't wait to get them on the show table in Alexandria.
I finally got a trio of chocolates for Carmen. Those chocolates should sell like hot cakes. They all carry REW and some form of dilute, so I can't wait to see what they produce. We got bets going on right now.
Back to the shows.... Our first show of the season is October 15 in Alexandria. 2 things we need: Carriers and a tattoo pen, I know for a fact my dad did something with the last one and I haven't gotten around to buying another one. Right now, bunnyrabbit.com is closed until the 9th of October. I guess I will take my chances and see how fast they can get it to me from Monday. Looks Like I will be showing 4 juniors and 2 seniors. Red Jasper and Ruby are the red juniors that are currently on the list, I just have to check their weights. What's really dissapointing is that their littermate, Sapphire, is no where near minimum weight. The whole litter is small, but she is so tiny. Rudy and Infamous are about 3 weeks younger than they are and they are so much bigger, but they are MINI REX. I'll be showing Infamous and Rusty, not sure how Infamous will do against the other brokens in open class, and I'm not sure who else will be showing torts. Then I am showing Carmen's Broken Chocolate buck just to get comments, he's a sweet boy. Queen's Hotter is also being showm, I'm getting him back into good fur condition, we're almost there. I'm really excited about the show, but I'm not excited about staying the whole day.
