It has been a rough rough rough rough couple months. We haven't had any litters in about 6 months for whatever reason. It's taking me a lot longer to build this flushkleen system. On top of all that we have lost our Red herd buck.
The good news: We got a castor buck to replace him for a couple months.
The bad news: I don't know what the hell this buck carries. We're crossing rabbit toes that he carries non-extesion, because if he doesn't, we are up a muddy red creek without a paddle.
I am attending the Poplarville, MS show to pick up new stock from Cresthill Rabbitry. A broken red doe and a broken chocolate doe. We also got a new REW buck for our Chocolate herd. I've been told he carries lilac, so if I play my cards right we may have some lilacs in the next couple months.
Also, we had to switch from Purina Show. I've been using the product for 2 years, but something just isn't right nowadays. We will now be feeding PenPals 16%
Now back to the good stuff!!!!!! As I stated before we got a castor buck to replace the red one. A lot of people say this is bad to breed in and blah blah blah. You gotta work with what cha got. You have four choices. RED, TORT, BLACK, OR CASTOR. Unless that black or castor carries non-extension don't expect any reds. Also, the main concern about breeding in castor is BLUE undercolor, which is a NO NO . I'm prepared for this and expect it to pop up in future generations. Honestly, the best reds I have seen come out of Castors. You will never get competable type breeding in mediocre reds to mediocred reds. This is why this color is soooo difficult, the best options are the worst options.
Hopefully we will see if this is a hit or miss in a couple weeks. I'm more excited about the chocolates at this point.
